We have two runners over the jumps at Fakenham on Sunday, where the ground is good, and they are watering to maintain, and we also have a runner on the flat at Nottingham, where it is currently good, good to soft in places.
It is approximately a 400 miles round trip from Middleham to Fakenham, and a gruelling nine hours there and back, but with each of our runners only facing three rivals, it is definitely worth going.
Getaway Jewel who has won all of his four races under Brian Hughes is now 11 years old, but his handicap mark which is 20lb below his last winning rating from July 2023 gives him every chance. Getaway Jewel is ground dependant and any soft in the description would be a big no no, but he should get his ground. He runs at 3.35.pm, in the 0-100 handicap chase, over two miles, with his regular rider Brian Hughes in the saddle.
Piecederesistance will also only face three rivals, when he goes to post for the 0-120 handicap hurdle, over two miles, at 4.05.pm, with Brian Hughes, who has ridden twice previously, taking the ride. Piecederesistance who has some well above average form on the flat including finishing second at last years Dante meeting at York has found life tougher over hurdles, but with a current mark of just 98 for a horse of his ability, if he can get his act together over the jumps, he would be the one to beat.
At Nottingham, Mandaab will make his flat debut for us at 4.30.pm, in the 0-75 handicap, over one mile and six furlongs, with Aiden Brookes taking the ride. Mandaab has finished midfield in both of his hurdles races and a flat race for us, since arriving from France last autumn. His last run in France was when winning a claimer at Deauville last August, and we will find out if his rating of 72 is a good one or a bad one.
