KING OF UNICORNS DROPS IN GRADE.

We have one runner on Saturday afternoon on what is Newcastle's biggest day of the year, the Pitmans Derby meeting.

We will be represented by King Of Unicorns who will go to post for the first race at 1.15.pm, a 0-80 handicap over 12 furlongs with Billy Garritty taking the ride. King Of Unicorns was a bumper winner on the turf at this course last November with Billy in the saddle, and then showed good form over a mile in his three qualifying runs in novice races on the flat, to finish in the frame each time. So it was a little disappointing to see him only finish fifth on his handicap debut at Ripon over 10 furlongs last time, but some of that can probably be put down to the horses inexperience against quality experienced handicappers. Whether this step up in trip is what he needs only time will tell, but this is a drop in grade.
