Quoteline Direct will make his fibresand debut on Thursday in the 6.45pm, over 12 furlongs, with Billy Garritty on board for the first time.Although he hasn't got his head in front so far this season, he has run well in defeat in three of his four races, with just a below par effort last time out at Ripon, in August. He was a revelation when sent hurdling last season, earning a BHA rating of 118, and a novice hurdle surely has his name written on it this winter. On Thursday he will race off his lowest mark yet of 54, and should go close if taking to the surface.
The Retriever returns to Southwell for the first time since February when going to post for the 7.45.pm over one mile, with the in form jockey Phil Dennis riding. The Retriever has finished second at this track on three previous occasions, and the trip will hold no fears. He is an admirably consistent horse, who just finds one, or two, too good each time,he has a good draw in stall four, and is now 4lb lower than his reappearance run back in August.
