IT'S LADY JOCKEYS EVENING AT CARLISLE.

This meeting which will take place at Carlisle on Saturday evening is unique in British racing, in that every race will be contested by only female professional and amateur jockeys, it is a meeting which is held annually. The going for Saturday is currently described as soft, good to soft in places, which will be a relief to those who have been waiting for a bit of cut underfoot.

We have three declared runners, with Bodygroove being first up at 5.37.pm, in the 0-70 handicap, over two miles and one furlong, with Becky Smith on board for the first time. Bodygroove who appears best at around two miles over jumps, surprisingly seem to want extreme distances on the flat judged on his staying on fifth over 17 furlongs at Pontefract 26 days ago. He has form on a softer surface, and will appreciate a strongly run race.

Arranmore is another who will need a fast run race to bring out the best of him, as he takes time to warm to his task, and this trip would be his minimum. Arranmore who can now race from a career low mark has got bits and pieces of form on a softer surface as a three year old back in 2019, but he probably would appreciate any drying out of the ground. He runs at 6.42.pm, in the 0-55 handicap, over the extended seven furlongs with Becky Smith who has ridden him once previously, taking the ride.

Evoluir can be forgiven his last run at Wolverhampton 12 days ago as he had an awful draw. He had previously kept on into a two lengths fourth at Catterick, and he is better judged on that. Evoluir proved at Wolverhampton last October when winning, that on his day, and when in the mood, the ability is still there, and he now races from 1lb below that last winning mark. The only time he raced on ground with soft in the description he finished second so he should be okay. He runs at 7.12.pm, in division two of the 0-55 handicap over the extended seven furlongs, with Becky Smith who has ridden once previously, back in the saddle.
