The ex French Geryville made a winning debut for us at Wetherby on Charlie Hall day on Saturday, in the hands of Alain Cawley. Geryville took time to warm to his task and was in the rear and not jumping with fluency on the first circuit, but as the race progressed Gerryville warmed to his task, and by the time he had jumped the last, coming home by 12 lengths, it was clear that he is at least a grade above this opposition. The handicapper will obviously have his say, but Geryville does look open to quite a bit of improvement, and he is also eligible for novice chases.
Congratulations to the connections, R M Howard.
GERYVILLE. 20 January 2016. Rail Link-Rosaville. Owner-R M Howard.
This was written prior the Geryville's British debut.
Geryville is a welcome addition to the team, having arrived from France over the summer, having previously been trained by F-M Cottin. He is already a winner of a flat race and a hurdle race, and has also been placed twice over fences. His dam only raced once back in 2009, but has produced three runners all rated in advance of 119. His sire Rail Link who was the winner of the 2006 Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe is a good source of dual purpose performers.
Geryville made a winning start to his career on the flat in a three year old only flat race at Fontainbleau, over one mile and five furlongs in September 2019. He made his hurdles debut two weeks later at Auteuil when finishing a 10 lengths third on a much softer surface. He stepped up significantly in class for his next three starts, but made no show, including in Listed company. He made his chase debut at Compiegne in May 2020 when unseating, before finishing sixth again in good company at Clairefontaine 19 days later. He returned to hurdles at Compiegne in June, and this time finished a respectable fourth, beaten by 14 lengths. Back over fences 10 days later saw him finish third at Auteuil, his best run to date in a chase. He was disappointing back at Auteuil in July, but after a short break he got off the mark at Auteuil in October, over two miles and two furlongs in a handicap hurdle in heavy ground. Geryville was back in Listed company at the same track 12 days later, but once again found the company too hot. He finished a respectable fourth at Auteuil in November, and then a 24 lengths third two weeks later before being given a break.
On his return in February 2021 he was fourth at Fontainebleau, and then down the field in all of his next four starts, all over fences between March to May. His final two starts in France were once again down the field finishes in hot company, in May and June, on his last start he wore blinkers for the first time.
Geryville is only five years old, he is the winner of a flat race on good ground, and a winner over hurdles in heavy ground, and comes with the bonus of being eligible for novice chase events.
