WISHFUL THINKING. 29 March 2013. Sholokhov-Wonderful Time.
Wishful Thinking is the first racecourse representative of his unraced dam Wonderful Time, who is by the 2002 German Derby winner Next Desert. To date Wishful Thinking has raced in one bumper, and four hurdle races, for the Henry De Bromhead yard, in the famous colours of Gigginstown House Stud.
Wishful Thinking made his debut in February 2020 at Thurles in a bumper, but after being prominent early on, he weakened quickly from four out to finish 10th of the 13 runners, coming home tailed off. After a five months break he reappeared at Bellewstown to make his hurdles debut with Rachael Blackmore in the saddle. He raced keenly, and weakened quickly again from two out, but was considerately ridden once beaten. At Kilbeggan 13 days later, he was keen again, and once again failed to get home, weakening before two out to finish in 10th position. In August at Killarney on his third hurdles start he fared a little better, finishing fifth, but beaten a total of 31 lengths, with the handicapper giving him his first official rating of 92.He duly made his handicap hurdles debut at Wexford in September, over their extended two miles, but once again weakened quickly from three out.
Wishful Thinking joined us after being purchased at the Doncaster Horses in training sale, in September, and will make his British racecourse debut shortly.
