We have three runners on Friday evening, with one representative going to Newmarket where the going is currently good to firm, and we also send two across to Thirsk where it is good to firm, good in places.
First up at 5.37.pm, at Thirsk is Musicality who has his third start for us since arriving from Newmarket back in the spring. When trained elsewhere Musicality was the winner of two races, and at his best in 2020 he achieved a BHA mark of 94, but in his two starts for us he is yet to show anything near that level, with his mark having slipped to 70. This will be his first try at a mile, and there is nothing in his form to suggest it will be of benefit, but it will give the horse something different to think about. The race is a 0-75 handicap, with Billy Garritty on board for the first time.
Our other runner at Thirsk is the two year old filly Anjo Bonita who has her second lifetime start at 7.15.pm, in seven furlongs novices stakes, where Billy Garritty retains the ride. Anjo Bonita made a pleasing debut at York three weeks ago when keeping on into sixth place, the form of that run would not be good enough to take this, but Anjo Bonita is a longer term project, so gaining further education here will be the number one priority, as we hope to see her take another step forward.
At Newmarket Fiftyshadesaresdev will go to post for the 6.48.pm, which is a 0-70 handicap over a mile, where he will be partnered by William Buick. Fiftyshadearesdev was at the top of his form on his second and third starts this season when finishing second at York, and then running at least as well at Pontefract the next time. A return to Pontefract on his penultimate start in first time cheek pieces was not as good, and then following wind surgery at Doncaster last time when stepping up to 10 furlongs for the first time he dropped away from over a furlong out. This step back in trip will be in his favour, but he does need to get back on track.
