WE HAVE OUR FIRST RUNNERS IN 11 DAYS.

We send one up to Hamilton on Monday where the going at the time of writing is good to soft, soft in places, and a further two to Newcastle for their evening meeting.

At Hamilton, Musicality has his fifth start for us at 1.05.pm, in a 0-70 Amateur Jockeys handicap over six furlongs, with Becky Smith in the saddle for the first time. Musicality was rated as high as 94 as a three year old in 2020, but has seriously lost his way in recent runs, which has seen his mark slip to 64. This will be his first try for us at six furlongs, a trip he won over at Newmarket in soft ground on his fourth start back in 2020.

On the all weather at Newcastle, Witchford will make her handicap debut at 5.25.pm, in a 0-65 nursery over 10 furlongs, with Aiden Brookes taking the ride. On the balance of her three runs to date an opening mark of 59 is probably about right, but she has never raced beyond seven furlongs, and she has also not raced on the all weather yet, but if she is to win this then improvement will have to be forthcoming.

For an unraced five year old mare Western Melody showed surprisingly good form in her three runs as a novice back in February and March, but in her three runs in handicaps since she has been disappointing, but there were excuses last time when she was hampered inside the final furlong. If she is to get competitive here she must break on terms, as in two of her last three starts she has dwelt. The race is a 0-55 handicap over seven furlongs with Aiden Brookes retaining the ride.
