UCCELLO.

The winter jumping season is once again approaching, and we will have many familiar old faces returning, as well as several new ones making their debuts. Over the coming days and weeks I will be providing detailed essays on some of our horses that will hopefully be in the winners enclosure very shortly.

UCCELLO. 12 May 2018. Frankel-Apsara Owner-

We now have two offspring in the yard by the greatest racehorse of all time, the mighty Frankel, the other of course is the consistent performer Frankelio. As you would suspect Uccello is exceptionally well bred, being out of a Darshaan mare who has had eight racecourse representatives, three of which are rated in excess of 100, and that includes the Group 2 winning 115 rated Curtain Call. Uccello has raced on four occasions to date, all for the Karl Burke yard, having been previously owned by Clipper Logistics.

Uccello didn't make his racecourse debut until March of his three year old career in 2021 in a Doncaster maiden over 10 furlongs. He sat in midfield, but came under pressure from three out, weakening to finish in 10th place, 13 lengths off the winner, with the jockey stating that the horse had hung right throughout. He was next seen nearly five weeks later on the all weather at Newcastle also over 10 furlongs, where after leading to around three out, he once again weakened to finish well down the field.

Uccello was gelded in May, and had his third start at Carlisle in July stepping up to 11 furlongs, where after leading till around a furlong and a half out, after being too keen he failed to get home, trailing in seventh. His final start for the Karl Burke yard was his handicap debut at Ripon in August over 12 furlongs from an opening mark of 58. He finished seventh of the eight runners beaten by 12 lengths, having once again taking a very strong hold, and hanging right under pressure from over one out. TO BE CONTINUED.
