We send two to Carlisle on Saturday afternoon for their jumps meeting, where the going is currently good, good to soft in places.
First up at 1.09.pm, is Applaus in a 0-110 Amateur Riders handicap hurdle over two miles and three furlongs, where he has the assistance of Becky Smith for the first time. Applaus will have no problem with the track, trip, or going, and remains on a decent mark of 109, but when running over two miles at Hexham last time, he looked at one stage that he would finish well down the field having run in snatches, but he decided to give generously from two out, and was closing in fast to finish a two lengths third. If he turns up in the right frame of mind he will take a big part in the finish.
Our other runner is Who's The Guv'Nor in the 0-105 novices' handicap chase at 1.44.pm, over the extended two miles and four furlongs, where he will be partnered by his regular jockey Alain Cawley. Who's The Guv'Nor's handicap mark has now slipped to 90 which looks very attractive on the best of his bumper and hurdles form, but unfortunately there has been far more tame efforts than there has been solid form, including all of his four starts over fences. His chance will be enhanced by any further drying out of the ground.
