Sedgefield stage their third meeting of the 21/22 jumps season, on ground that is currently good, and they are watering to maintain.
We have declared Brickadank in the 3.42.pm, a 0-105 handicap hurdle over the extended two miles for conditional jockeys, with our stable conditional jockey Emma Smith-Chaston able to take off 6lb. Brickadank returns to hurdles after racing in two staying handicaps on the flat in recent weeks, but he just doesn't possess the pace required to get competitive in that discipline. This return to hurdles will be much more up his street, as he showed on at least two occasions last season when finishing third, that a hurdles win is within his compass, he can now race from his lowest mark yet of 82.
We also run Freddie's Frontier in the closing bumper at 5.20.pm, over the extended two miles, with Henry Brooke on board for the first time. Freddie's Frontier was very disappointing on debut back in March 2020 at Newcastle when being far too keen, doing too much early on and paying the price by finishing tailed off. He did not reappear until 22 days ago at Perth, this time he settled much better, but still looked in need of the experience, so to finish within five lengths of the winner was a giant step forward. There is no reason to think he won't take another step forward again this time.
