The ground at Cartmel should continue to dry out, where at the time of writing it is good to soft, good in places.
Justforjames is first to go to post at 2.10.pm, in a 0-110 handicap chase, over the extended three miles and one furlong, with his regular jockey Becky Smith in the saddle. It was at this corresponding meeting two years ago that Justforjames finished second on good ground, off a mark of 120, his mark has now tumbled to 102.It was only five runs ago in November of last year, on Justforjames' seasonal debut, that he was only beaten 12 and a half lengths, from a mark of 124, that race was also run on good ground, but in four subsequent starts he has failed to get competitive.
Iconic Hero has also tumbled a long way in the weights, he runs at 3.20.pm, in a 0-110 handicap chase, over two miles and five furlongs. In three starts for us he failed to spark, but you only have to go back 10 months to find he finished third, beaten only five and a quarter lengths on good ground off a mark of 103. His current mark has now dropped to 87, with Connor O'Farrell retaining the ride.
Our final runner is Perfect Man, who is one of the horses we picked up at Doncaster sales last week, he runs at 4.30.pm, in a Class 3 handicap hurdle over two miles and six furlongs. He is a 10 year old who has run 30 times over hurdles, winning on seven occasions, and his mark of 129 appears to be just about right. His last run was two weeks ago at Uttoxeter when he finished third, only three and a quarter lengths behind the winner, he could prove to be a very good buy. He has form, both on good ground, and soft ground, and will be ridden by Alian Cawley.
