The Rutland Rebel who was exceptionately well in at the weights in comparison to his flat mark finally came good over jumps at the seventh time of asking at Perth on Wednesday afternoon when getting up in the final stride under a power packed ride from Emma Smith-Chaston to get home by a short head.
The Rutland Rebel jumped more fluently than he has in the past, and will have appreciated the sounder surface, but I am certain that from his current mark there is still significantly more to come when he gets to race on an even faster surface, and when he steps up further in trip, as two and a half miles looks a bare minimum.
