We send four down to Wetherby on Wednesday where it is looking highly likely that the meeting will take place on soft ground.
The classy Eragone who is currently rated 134 returns from a 13 months absence, he was last seen when coming down two out when still in with every chance at Wetherby, prior to that he had finished second to First Flow in the 2020 Castleford Chase. Before arriving at Oakwood Stables he had raced on 20 occasions in France, winning three hurdles races and a chase. The race is at 2.40.pm, a 0-140 handicap chase over one mile and seven furlongs, with Conor O'Farrell on board for the first time.
Furax has only raced twice for us since arriving from France in December 2020, and those two runs were 11 months apart. Both of those races were over hurdles, where he has failed to get competitive, the latest one being at Newcastle last month. He now reverts to fences, where he has already won once, and been placed a further five times, when trained in France. He will go to post for the 3.15.pm, a 0-120 handicap chase over three miles with Becky Smith in the saddle for the first time.
Next up is Trac, another of our French imports who takes his chance at 3.50.pm, in division 1 of the 0-100 handicap hurdle over the extended two miles and three furlongs, with Alain Cawley retaining the ride. Since arriving from France Trac has taken his time to find his feet, which has seen his mark slip from 103 to 78. At first glance his 17 lengths seventh at Newcastle last time doesn't look too much to get excited about, but when you consider the runaway winner won by 12 lengths, and Trac was doing his best work at the end of that two miles, he could well be worth a second look.
Getaway Jewel is our representative in division 2 of the handicap hurdle at 4.22.pm, where he will have the assistance of our stable conditional jockey Jack Hogan in the saddle for the first time. To be fair Getaway Jewel has never shown any real promise over hurdles in 10 previous attempts, two of which were in France in the summer of 2020, and the others since joining us, over a variety of distances, and going, he will now race from a career low mark of 71.
