On Friday The Retriever steps back up to a mile, as all of those other races were over seven furlongs. He has previous form at a mile on two occasions, once at Southwell, and once at Newcastle, which suggest that this extra distance will hold no fears. His current mark of 52 leaves him with nothing to hide from the handicapper, but he does have one big advantage over many of his opponents at this level, and that is his admirable consistency. He has drawn well in stall 2, and our stable apprentice jockey Aiden Brookes will claim the 7lb.
