ROYLE STEEL.

The very promising Royle Steel who was a recent winner at Sedgefield.

ROYLE STEEL 30 April 2018 Spanish Moon-Suffisante Owner-A E Tasker

Royle Steel is a French bred, out of a mare who although retiring a 15 race maiden did show decent form in France when placing in three chases, including a third at Auteuil in 2015. His sire is the high class producer of jumpers Spanish Moon whose career highlight when trained by Sir Michael Stoute was winning the Group 1, 2009 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud. Royle Steel made his racecourse debut in a bumper at Doncaster in December 2021, where after being too keen, he weakened from over two out, but still managed a respectable 14 and a half lengths fifth. His over exuberance once again got the better of him on his next start, which was also his hurdles debut at Wetherby in January 2022, where once again after leading the field he faded from three out, he also possibly found the soft conditions against him. For his next start at Sedgefield a month later, Alain Cawley who had also been in the saddle for his first two starts held him up well out the back. After looking like he may get tailed off at half way, the penny suddenly dropped and he began to close in, even a mistake at the last didn't stop him as he galloped to the front in the last 100 yards to win by three quarters of a length.
