PIECEDERESISTANCE STEPS UP INTO CLASS 2 COMPANY.

We have two runners on Saturday, one at Chester where the going is currently good, good to firm in places, and one at York, where it is also good, good to firm in places.

At Chester Witchford has her second start at 1.55.pm, in a seven furlongs novices stakes for filly's only, where she will once again be partnered by Aiden Brookes. Witchford is by the first season sire Expert Eye who has got off to a good start with eight individual winners to date. Witchford was slow away on her debut at Pontefract 17 days ago, but once the penny began to drop she was staying on up the hill to finish a respectable seventh. She faces at least two very promising opponents here, but the race will prove invaluable to her further education.

When Piecederesistance won at Pontefract 27 days ago he earned the right to have a crack at a big one, and the choice of race for him is the 0-105 Class 2 handicap at 5.20.pm, over the extended 10 furlongs at York, where he will be partnered by Hollie Doyle. Piecederesistance was stepping up on his previous second at Pontefract when winning last time, having travelled powerfully throughout the race. On both of those occasions he has raced keenly, and now that he steps up in class that should help him to settle better. He races from a 3lb higher mark, but after watching his last two races I get the feeling that there is still more to come.
