PIECEDERESISTANCE.

The winter jumping season is once again approaching, and we will have many familiar old faces returning, as well as several new ones making their debuts. Over the coming days and weeks I will be providing detailed essays on some of our horses that will hopefully be in the winners enclosure very shortly.

PIECEDERESISTANCE. 10 March 2018. Gleneagles-Positive Step. Owner-Ryder Sugden.

Piecederesistance is a recent arrival from France where he had been in training with the powerful yard of Andre Fabre, since arriving at Oakwood Stables he has been gelded.

Piecederesisance is by the dual 2000 Guineas winner of 2015 Gleneagles, who is a son of the late great Galileo. His dam who is a daughter of Footstepsinthesand raced on five occasions as a three year old in Ireland in 2010, with a second placing at Limerick over an extended one mile and three furlongs being her career highlight, earning an official rating of 72 (Irish.) At stud she has produced six runners, including the 107 rated Packing Stones.

Piecederesistance made his debut in September 2020 as a two year old at Saint-Cloud on good ground, over a mile. He won that first start despite running green, keeping on when challenged, for a length and a quarter success. He reappeared three weeks later at Compiegne under a 4lb penalty over nine furlongs in heavy ground. He was keen, and carried his head awkwardly when asked for his effort two out, he finished in third, five and a half lengths off the winner, but improving his RPR from 82 to 83.

He had a break over the winter and didn't reappear until March 2021 in a three year old's only conditions race at Fontainbleau. He was once again keen, and carried his head high under pressure, but came home in third, only a length and a neck behind at the line, his RPR was increased to 90. His final start to date was in early May over 10 furlongs at Nancy. He led the field, until inside the final furlong, until being outpaced by the easy winner, but he kept on to the line to finish in third place. TO BE CONTINUED.
