LLEYTON 50/1 WINNER!!!!!!!

Having is first run for us Lleyton won at the first attempt at Wolverhampton on Monday evening.

Like some human beings, horses don't always give 100%, and Lleyton was probably saving something for himself, having got wise to the game, so sometimes a change of scenery can help, and sometimes being kidded in to the race by being given a clever ride can help as well.

Lleyton was drawn wide in 11, and jockey Oliver Stammers dropped him out last, not making headway through the field until around three out. He came wide in to the straight, but he was on a going day, and had a little still to spare at the line.

Owner-Pauline and Camilla Southerington. Lleyton is out of the prolific broodmare Bonnie Parker, who has had seven racecourse representatives to date, including two, both by Milan who have recorded marks in excess of 140. Bonnie Parker won a novice hurdle in January 2004 at Sedgefield, when trained by the late, great Ferdy Murphy. At the age of eight, Lleyton has already run on 41 occasions, in all the disciplines.

Lleyton started his career in Ireland running for the yard of T J Taaffe in Straffan, County Kildare. He made his debut in a Punchestown bumper in April 2016, finishing 15th of the 17 runners, before contesting four Maiden hurdles between October, to December, his one run of any note being a 14 lengths sixth at Galway on his third start. He was then rested until the following April 2017 when contesting three handicap hurdles, starting from a mark of 92, but never getting competitive. In September he was switched to the flat, and on his third start, and his All Weather debut at Dundalk in October, in a 10 furlongs claimer, he managed to get competitive for the first time finishing second at 33/1.

The next time we saw Lleyton was in a point to point at Sradbally the following April 2018, now trained by J R Finn at Nenagh, County Tipperary, he finished fifth, beaten 15 lengths.Back under rules at Downpatrick in May he unseated on his rules chase debut at the first, before hitting form back on the flat in July at Ballinrobe, from a mark of 58 he finished second. It was back over hurdles at Downpatrick in August, and with the assistance of Barry Geraghty, he won the two miles and three furlongs handicap hurdle off a mark of 86. He was slightly disappointing next time, but won again at Tramore in October. He was sent chasing again in November, but a bad mistake put paid to his chance, but four days later at Thurles, and a further 10 days after that he finished runner up both times at Thurles, in fact during the month of November 2018 he ran in five handicap hurdles in 29 days.

It was no surprise then that he wasn't seen again until April 2019, when finishing a respectable forth of 16 on the flat at Limerick, after two more runs over hurdles, he won for the first time on the flat over 17 furlongs at Limerick on good ground, from a mark of 57 in June.He would race a further 10 times for the yard of J R Finn, mixing the flat, hurdles, and chases without ever really getting competitive, through until December.

Lleyton would next turn out in July 2020, now trained in Leyburn, North Yorkshire by Justin Landy. He ran at Market Rasen, and ran a cracker to finish second over two miles from his British mark of 103, but after looking all over the winner, he found disappointingly little when asked. He went to Southwell in August, and given a patient ride, which culminated in a two and a half lengths fifth finish, of the 14 runners. He dropped away to finish tailed off in August at Stratford, and on his final start for the Justin Landy yard the jockey reported that the horse stopped very quickly from two out at Perth.
