Kayf Adventure is a very welcome addition to the team. before joining us he had raced exclusively for the Philip Hobbs yard, achieving a best official mark of 139, and a best Racing Post rating of 142.He is by the current number one jumps sire Kayf Tara, out of a Strong Gale mare, who produced seven offspring that saw a racecourse, the mare was a winner of a Sedgefield mares hurdle for Mick Easterby back in 1994.
Kayf Adventure made his debut in a bumper at Kempton in February 2015, keeping on for a respectable forth. The race wasn't wasted on him as he made all at Warwick six weeks later, coming home 19 lengths in front of the second horse.
Injury struck, and he would not be seen again until New Years Day 2017, when finishing third on his hurdles debut at Exeter, and then mirroring his bumper form, he won some seven weeks later at Fontwell, with Richard Johnson in the saddle, at odds of 1/2. He went off at 5/4 for his handicap debut at Sandown in March from a mark of 123, but could only manage third, beaten four and a half lengths.His next race was his final start over hurdles, going off at 1/1, he was a good second, beaten two and a half lengths at Wincanton. Kayf Adventure was given a break, and returned at Newton Abbot in October for his chase debut, in a quality field of four novices, he beat the Paul Nichols trained Emerging Talent by three and a half lengths, impressing the handicapper enough to raise him to a new high of 138.In November he was sent to Ayr for a Class 3 handicap chase, but never got competitive. Back in novice company at Towcester in November, he was a shade disappointing, finishing a 26 lengths third under a penalty, before finding his form again at Wincanton in January 2018, winning a four runner handicap chase.He was back at Wincanton in February finishing second from his highest mark yet of 139, and later on in the month, he was a staying on third at Warwick from the same mark.His next appointment was in the Close Brothers Novice Handicap Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, where he finished seventh of the 19 runners, beaten 17 lengths, lacking the pace to get fully involved.He was turned out again just 11 days later at Newbury, finishing second, on what would be his last race of that season.
Kayf Adventure returned at Newbury in December in a Class 2 handicap, weakening from two out to finish fifth.In February 2019, again in Class 2 company he fell for the only time in his career, coming down at the 15th when still in touch. He was not seen again until November at Bangor when finishing third in Class 2 company, going down by eight lengths. In the 'Grand Sefton' at Aintree in December, a slow jump at the fifth put paid to his chance, and he eventually pulled up for the first time.He was then forth at Chepstow's Christmas meeting, followed by a five lengths third at Ascot in January 2020.His final race for the Hobb's yard was at Wincanton in February, finishing third of the four runners, beaten seven and three quarter lengths.
Kayf Adventure made his debut for us at Aintree over fences in December 2020, having his first race in 10 months, his jumping was poor, and his jockey Connor O'Farrell pulled him up before two out.It was decided that he needed minor wind surgery, and he was back on the track at Wetherby on Boxing Day, and this time over hurdles, his first run over timber since March 2017. He finished fifth in the race, beaten by 13 lengths, but it was a step back in the right direction. He was back at Wetherby 17 days later for a second spin over hurdles, and this time he managed third, although beaten by 18 lengths. He was next seen in a jumpers bumper at Newcastle in February, and after attempting to make all, he became outpaced, and finished in sixth place, but only nine and a half lengths behind the winner. His most recent start was at Carlisle on March 21st, when he returned to fences for the first time since his wind surgery, from a mark of 122 he ran his best race for us yet, when keeping on in to third place, beaten by three and a half lengths, and one place behind his stablemate Grange Ranger.
Kayf Adventure is a horse of above average ability, and as a lightly raced 10 year old, there is still some memorable days to be had.He has never raced on a surface that hasn't had the word soft, or heavy in the description, and it appears his ideal trip is around two miles and four furlongs.
