As the flat turf season draws to a close, the All Weather tracks such as Newcastle come in to their own, and keep the flat bandwagon rolling through the winter months. We have a fair few runners to compete in this discipline, and two of them take their chance on Monday evening.
Our three year old filly Just Jean who runs in the same colours as Middlesborough football team, steps up to 10 furlongs for the first time, in the 4.30.pm. Just Jean is undoubtedly a very well handicapped horse judged on her racecourse debut, when finishing runner up at Ripon back in June 2019. Since then her form has been in decline, but due to the persistence of her jockey Andrew Mullen at Newcastle 10 days ago, who never stopped urging her, she consented to run on well inside the final furlong, over one mile.If she puts her best hoof forward from the start, then the extra two furlongs should be to her advantage. Regular jockey Andrew Mullen is unavailable, so Phil Dennis who is having his first ride for us, takes over.
Our second runner is the four year old filly Red Skye Delight, who races for only the second time for us,having raced previously for two other yards. She is a 13 race maiden, but has gone close on a number of occasions, being beaten by six lengths or less on 10 of her starts to date.At Newcastle 10 days ago, having her first start since June, she raced keenly, before weakening from two out. That race will have put her straight, and she should be more competitive this time, the race is over seven furlongs which looks like her optimum trip, Paula Muir takes the ride, and the race is at 7.30.pm.
Good luck to the connections, Mr and Mrs Paul Chapman, and Miss Rebecca Dennis.
