Great Raffles showed that his previous run at Wetherby 34 days ago wasn't a flash in the pan when going two places better at the West Yorkshire track on Tuesday afternoon. That last run was the first form he had shown in 10 previous attempts over hurdles, and this step up in trip of four furlongs, plus running on a less testing surface shows he is versatile. Great Raffles faced two challengers on the run in, but he showed the determination that is needed to grind out a win under his jockey Alain Cawley. There is no reason to think that he wont go close again next time in similar company.
