We have two runners on Tuesday when Desaray Girl runs over hurdles at Market Rasen, where the going is currently soft, heavy in places, and we also have a runner on the flat at Southwell, where their new Tapeta surface is currently riding standard to slow.
It was only just over two years ago that Desaray Girl was winning in Listed company at Haydock, and receiving a BHA mark of 133. In the time since then she lost her way badly, and appeared to have fallen out of love with racing. That was until a week ago at Ayr, when running from a much reduced mark of 99, and with Emma Smith-Chaston taking off a further 6lb, she at last showed all of her old enthusiasm with a length and three quarter victory, with the key being the heavy ground she needs to bring out the best in her. Because of the vagaries of the handicapping system Desaray Girl will now be able to race off an even lower mark of just 95, making her chance of following up, if in the same mood, obvious. The race is at 1.35, a 0-120 mares handicap hurdle, over the extended two and a half miles, with Emma Smith-Chaston retaining the ride.
Also running in the same colours at 6.30.pm, over at Southwell is the veteran The Resdev Way, who is currently running as well as ever. This previous winner of 10 of his 81 starts will take his chance in a 0-60 handicap over one mile and six furlongs, with the top jockey Robert Havlin retaining the ride. The Resdev Way has struck form with vengeance recently, he won under Becky Smith at Lingfield in January, and then from a 2lb higher mark was a staying on second at Kempton 13 days ago, which has seen him pushed up a further 1lb to his new mark of 58. The trip should just be about okay for this stayer, and he has drawn well in stall five.
