CYMRAEG BOUNTY

CYMRAEG BOUNTY. 31 January 2012. Bahamian Bounty-Croeso Cusan. Owner-M. Andrews.

Cymraeg Bounty is by the top class sire of sprinters Bahamian Bounty, out of a mare who stayed a mile, and was the winner of four races between 2008-2010, when trained by John Spearing.

Cymraeg Bounty has only raced 18 times, which is very low mileage for an eight year old, but he has a touch of class, having won five times, and achieving a BHA mark of 91. He started his career racing as a three year old in the care of the Mick Appleby yard, making his debut at Nottingham over 10 furlongs in May 2015, finishing a never dangerous eighth of the 11. Over the same trip at Newcastle 11 days later he trailed in last of the nine, with Danny Tudhope in the saddle. He showed his first form at Haydock in June, when dropping back to a mile, keeping on into third, and earning his first BHA mark of 78.He raced on four further occasions for the Appleby yard, running over trips between 7 furlongs to 12 furlongs, but never got competitive.

For his four year old season he was moved to the yard of Iain Jardine, and this would prove to be his golden period (to date.) He made his debut for his new yard at Haydock, over a mile in April 2016, and finished third from a reduced handicap mark of 69.That race must have put him spot on, because he went on to win five of his next seven races, starting off at Ayr in May, over 10 furlongs, and following up at the same track two weeks later over nine furlongs. He failed to fire at Carlisle on his next attempt, but was back on track at Ayr in July, when dropped back to seven furlongs, in soft ground, and winning again, proving he can act on any surface. At Ayr again three weeks later he finished a respectable forth, beaten under three lengths, before dropping back to six furlongs at Redcar, on good to firm in August, and passing the post first by a nose.He saved his best performance of that season for his last race in August 2016, when winning over six furlongs at Ffos Las off a mark of 88. Cymraeg Bounty has obviously suffered more than his fair share of injury's since, as he was not seen again until appearing in the Doncaster Spring Mile, in March 2018, finishing 13th of the 20 runners, and in the care of his third trainer Olly Murphy. When he appeared just eight days later, again at Doncaster, he was now in the care of Paul Midgley, where he finished 11th of the 15 runners, beaten eight lengths. His final race to date, which was also his final race for Paul, was at York in June 2018, where he ran a cracker over seven furlongs, finishing forth, and gong under by just two lengths.

Cymraeg Bounty has had just three races in the last four seasons, so only time will tell if he can stand up to racing, and tell us what ability he retains, whatever happens he is a very welcome addition to the team.
