Cornerstone Lad who is already a Grade 1 winning hurdler, and a three time winner on the flat, can now add a first win over fences to his CV. At Wetherby on Saturday afternoon after being held up off the pace, he was brought with a steady run from four out by Conor O'Farrell, and was clearly travelling powerfully when jumping to the front two out. He was well in commend when idling badly on the run in, but was still two and three quarter lengths in front at the line. Cornerstone Lad was winning from a mark of 140, and I would imagine he is in for around a 5lb rise in the weights. His jumping is improving, and he is entitled to now look at one of the seasons top handicaps, as long as the ground stays on the soft side.
