CARNIVAL ZAIN DECLARED FOR CHESTER ON FRIDAY.

Carnival Zain will have his fourth start for us since arriving from France in May when contesting the 0-80 handicap for Gentlemen Amateur riders over an extended seven furlongs, with Mr Freddie Mitchell riding for us for the first time. The going is good to firm at the time of writing, and Carnival Zain has yet to race on a surface with firm in the description, although he has winning form on the artificial surface at Pornichet-La Baule.

Carnival Zain started out for us at York in July when finishing an excellent three and a half lengths sixth to Challet, he was down the field at Haydock next time on very soft ground, and never managed to get competitive behind Challet on better terms at Ripon on his latest start. The biggest sticking point on this occasion is the draw, as Carnival Zain has been unfortunate to have drawn in stall 12, which around Chester makes life very difficult indeed.

CARNIVAL ZAIN. 24 February 2017 Youmzain-Lady Fashion Owner-Newroc & Partner

As his name suggests Carnival Zain is by the brilliant Youmzain, who was runner up in no less than three 'Prix De L'Arc De Triomphe's in 2007, 2008, and 2009, although his record at stud is far less impressive. His dam is by Oasis Dream, and she was a dual winner over seven furlongs in Ireland as a three year old, and has produced two other offspring who are both also by Youmzain, including the 103 Racing Post rated Sunny Way 1.

To date Carnival Zain has raced on 10 occasions in France when trained from the yard of Eoghan O'Neill, which includes five times as a two year old, four times at three, and once at four. He made his racecourse debut at the end of May 2019 over six and a half furlongs at Maisons-Laffitte, going down by two and three quarter lengths to finish fifth. He backed that debut up with two solid placed efforts, finishing third at Clairefontaine in July, and then when stepping up to a mile in August on the all weather track at Pornichet-La Baule, he filled the runner up spot. He got off the mark over that same course and distance 20 days later at the fourth attempt when winning by a nose. His final start as a juvenile was at Chantilly in September when running in Group 3 company, and although finishing last of the six, he was only six and a quarter lengths behind the winner.

As a three year old Carnival Zain first appeared in May 2020 over 10 furlongs at Le Lion-D'Angers, where he finished second of the eight runners. He was then stepped up to 12 furlongs at Nantes but he probably failed to stay as he next appeared at La Teste De Buch in September over an extended nine furlongs, and also in first time blinkers, where he finished in seventh place. Back at a mile 13 days later, and with the blinkers dispensed with, he made his handicap debut, finishing third, a length and a quarter off the winner, on what would be his last race at three. He was gelded shortly after and put away until the spring of this year, when running fourth in April at Cholet over seven furlongs, where he may have found the trip on the sharp side.

Carnival Zain will probably prove best at a mile, to 10 furlongs, with all of his best form coming on either an all weather track, or on a softer surface, although he has never run on firm ground.
