Carnival Zain who had arrived from France last year with a mark of 77, and had proved generally disappointing in six starts last season, which saw his mark drop to 64, showed that his winters acclimatisation has done him the world of good. He returned at Newcastle in March when finishing second, and then he built on that at Catterick when going one better last month. At Thirsk on Saturday from his new mark of 68, and running on ground with firm in the description for the very first time he made all under the brilliant Silvestre De Sousa to win by three parts of a length. He will probably go up a further 4lb for this, but he will still remain ahead of the handicapper.
