Carnival Zain had the worst of the draw in stall 13, until the persistent rain softened the ground sufficiently to make the stand side of the track vastly advantageous. So stall 13 became the best of the draw instead of the worst, but it mustn't be underestimated how well Carnival Zain ran to win by half a length, after taking up the running in the the last half furlong under Billy Garritty.
Carnival Zain struggled for form in his six starts last term after arriving from France, but after his winter break he returned at Newcastle a month ago and posted a much improved second placing, which he has now backed up. The handicapper can't go mad with this performance, and I would be surprised if he gets a rise of more than 2lb.
