On his 23rd career start at Chester on Friday evening Carnival Zain won for the third time this season when probably putting up a new personal best, when after sitting in just behind the pace he was produced by Becky Smith to take up the running inside the final furlong, and stay on well for a comfortable length and a half success.

Whether he has improved a chunk or not is open to question, but if body language is anything to go by then you could see he was always travelling strongly, and definitely benefiting from a strong pace being set by those up front. Of course it has also got to be remembered that having Becky Smith on board in these ladies amateur riders races is always an advantage, and I expect either a 3lb or 4lb rise from the handicapper.
