Becky Smith

Becky is Assitant Trainer as well as being a talented amateur jockey.

She's a popular and highly enthusiastic member of Middleham’s racing community with bags of energy, a razor-sharp wit, it was once said of Becks that you'll hear her before you see her and we won't disagree with that!

During her first Flat season with us in 2011, Becks rode her first winner on Terenzium in an amateurs’ handicap at Hamilton, coincidentally the same race Gemma had won on Charlotte Vale four years earlier. She partnered her first winner over hurdles on Catawollow for Richard Guest at Wetherby in April 2013 and recorded her first winner over fences aboard Richard Ford's Camillas Wish at Cartmel in June 2017. She now co - owns the mare and has bred two foals, Jakes Wish by Kayf Tara and Baby Joey by Jack Hobbs.

Becks was crowned Lady Amateur flat jockey Champion in 2018, by a record number of winners with 11.

Her long road back from injury, her fundraising achievements and her IFAHR series rides while representing Great Britain were recognised in the 2016 Godolphin Stud and Stable Staff Awards, in which she was runner up in the rider and groom category won by Alyson Deniel.

January 2020 has seen Becks make her way to Australia where she spent a month shadowing Ciaron Maher and David Eustace in his yards in Melbourne and Sydney, all through the great achievement of winning the Alex Scott future trainers travel scholarship.

Although she missed winning the flat championship in 2022 by 1 win she partnered Carnival Zain to a thrilling success at Ascot and decisive win at Chester. Another highlight was winning the Epsom Ladies Derby on the George Scott trained Miss Mulligan.

In 2023 Becky was nominated for the Leadership Award at the Thoroughbred Industry Employee Awards and was a runner up on the night.
